AMU entrance exams

Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) is a premier central university located in Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh. Every year, AMU conducts entrance exams for a number of undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) courses besides diploma courses. The UG and diploma courses for which entrance exams are held include Diploma in Engineering, B.Sc (Hons), BA LLB, B.Com (Hons), B.Arch, B.Tech and BA (Hons).

The NEET score is used for admissions into MBBS and BDS courses.

Candidates can apply for admission by filling in and submitting the relevant forms, along with the documents required, either online or offline.

Examination pattern

The course-wise examination patterns are as follows:

1. B.Tech

The examination is of three-hour duration and includes 150 multiple-choice questions from Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. Four options are provided for each question, out of which the candidate has to select the correct one. One mark is awarded for a correct answer and 1/4 marks are deducted for each wrong answer.

2. B.Arch

The exam includes two tests. One is common with the B.Tech entrance exam and the other is the architecture aptitude test, which includes descriptive questions and a test of drawing. Candidates have to score at least 40% marks in the architecture aptitude test, in order to be eligible for selectionThe exam includes two tests. 3. Diploma in Engineering

The exam is of two-hour duration and includes 100 objective-type questions with the following marking scheme:

  • Physics and Chemistry - 40 marks
  • Maths - 40 marks
  • Indo - Islamic culture - 10 Marks
  • General Knowledge - 10 Marks

4. B.Sc (Hons) Home Science (Agricultural Sciences)

The question paper includes 100 objective questions and is divided into the following sections:

  • Physics - 25 marks
  • Chemistry - 25 marks
  • English - 25 marks
  • Maths - 25 marks
  • Biology - 25 marks
  • Home Science (Agricultural Sciences) - 25 Marks

The first three sections are compulsory, whereas candidates can choose to attempt any one of the remaining three sections. The duration of the exam is two hours.

5. B.A. (Hons)

There question paper includes 100 multiple choice questions and has the following marking scheme:

  • Intelligence and reasoning - 10 marks
  • General awareness and current affairs - 40 marks
  • Aligarh movement and Indo-Islamic culture - 25 marks
  • English - 25 marks

The duration of the exam is two hours.

B.Com. (Hons.)

The two-hour exam has 100 objective questions with the following marking scheme:

  • General awareness - 10 marks
  • Reasoning and numerical ability - 10 marks
  • Elementary mathematics and statistics - 10 marks
  • Economics - 10 marks
  • Business studies - 15 marks
  • Accountancy - 20 marks
  • English - 25 marks

BA LLB

The duration of the exam is two hours and the question paper includes 75 objective questions and 25 short-answer questions. The questions are based on:

  • Aptitude and reasoning
  • General knowledge/current affairs (with focus on legal issues)
  • General English

  • For diploma courses - The upper-age limit is 19 years for some courses and 21 for others
  • For graduate courses - The upper-age limit is 24 years (22 years for B.A LLB; not less than 17 years for MBBS/BDS)

  • B. Tech and B. Arch - Candidates should have passed the class 12 examination with at least 50% aggregate marks in Physics, Chemistry, mathematics and English. Those who have acquired a Diploma in Engineering with a minimum of 50% marks are also eligible.
  • MBBS/BDS - Candidates should have passed the class 12 exam with at least 50% aggregate marks in Physics, Chemistry and Biology.
  • B.Sc. (Hons.) - Candidates are required to have passed their class 12 exams with a minimum of 55% aggregate marks in English, Physics, Chemistry and Biology/Mathematics.
  • B.A. (Hons.) - Candidates should have passed class 12 with an aggregate score of 50% in English and any three of the following subjects: Urdu, Sociology, Sanskrit, Psychology, Political Science/ Civics, Physics, Physical Health Education, Philosophy, Persian, Mathematics, Islamic Studies, Home Science, History, Hindi, Geography, Fine Arts, English, Economics, Computer Science, Commerce, Chemistry, Business Studies, Banking, Arabic, Accountancy and modern Indian languages.
  • BA LLB - Candidates should have scored at least 50% aggregate marks in class 12.

The application fees can only be paid online through debit/credit card or net banking.

Admit cards

The admit cards have to be downloaded from the official website and are available only in the online mode. The admit cards are released one to two weeks before the entrance exam date of each course. To download the admit card, a candidate has to select the course for which he/she is appearing for the entrance exam and enter his/her transaction ID.,.
