The syllabus prescribed by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) for classes 11 and 12 or by the state education boards for higher secondary is followed for the JIPMER entrance exam.
Candidates have to be at least 17 years old as on 31 December of the year of exam.
Candidates have to be citizens of India or overseas citizens of India.
Candidates should have passed the class 12 examination or equivalent, with Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology and English, and should have scored at least 50% aggregate marks in Physics, Chemistry and Biology/Biotechnology. SC, ST, OBC and physically handicapped candidates require a minimum of 40% aggregate marks in the three subjects.
Those who have appeared for their class 12 examinations and are awaiting their results are also eligible to apply.
The fees have to be paid in the online mode only though:
The application fee is Rs.1000 (Rs.800 for SC/ST category candidates). Physically handicapped candidates are exempt from paying the application fee.
The application fee for NRI/OCI candidates is approximately Rs.2500.
The admit cards have to be downloaded from the official website. The user ids and passwords required for the purpose are generated online at the time of submission of applications. The admit cards will not sent to the candidates through post or courier or through any other mode. The candidates have to carry the admit cards to the examination centres, along with an identity proof (original and a photocopy).
Since the exam is conducted in two sessions(shifts), normalisation is required to ensure that students are not at an advantage or disadvantage because of the difficulty of the questions. After the calculation of the percentile scores for all candidates using conventional formulae, sorting is done to prepare an overall merit list. If there is a tie, comparison of the Biology/Biotechnology, Chemistry, Physics, English and Reasoning scores is done, in that order, so as to break it. Following the resolution of the ties, the final merit list is prepared.
