Students discuss key global issues during VIDMUN
The second edition of the Vidyanatariksha Model United Nations (VIDMUN) was organised at Manav Rachna International School. It is structured along the lines of Model United Nations (MUN), which has, over the years, become a global academic phenomenon. The conferences organised as part of MUN have key global issues as their subject of discussion. Students are given an opportunity to brainstorm, debate and develop a deeper understanding of current world issues. Besides, it honed their skills in diplomacy, negotiation, critical thinking, public speaking, writing and research.
A total of 596 students from schools across Delhi-NCR participated in this year’s VIDMUN. Nine committees were formed for these young delegates to debate, discuss and explore feasible solutions for conflict resolution. The topics that were taken up for the discussions revolved around reforms in the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), the impact of Russian counter-sanctions on European countries, implications of the emergence of the private sector on outer space exploration, roadmap post the 2019 United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) elections and the Berlin airlift. Through engaging in these discussions, the participants got valuable insights into the specificity of each problem and come up with novel solutions to tackle them. Furthermore, it bolstered their self-confidence and fostered a collaborative spirit in them.
