The introduction of information technology in education is a boon to students as well as teachers, since it has brought an improvement in the overall efficiency of the system. Technology helps in increasing younger generation’s interest in what is being taught in the classroom. It also unlocks their creativity in a better way. This is especially important in the era of the Internet, when everything is just a  click away. Today’s students are tuned to make the best use of technology and therefore, imparting education through and with the help of IT has created its own niche. It does not replace notebooks and textbooks. In fact, it combines and enriches the knowledge-imparting platform. Technology is only the means and not the end. Further, it will never substitute what teachers can inculcate into their students – knowledge and skills.

Education is becoming a learning exercise rather than a means of imparting bookish knowledge and imposing learning by rote. It is also encouraging students to take initiatives and prompting them to conduct their own research, explore things on their own and seek new ideas.

Therefore, they are now preferring the institutes that impart education through IT, as they know the benefits they can derive from technology-based learning. It is evident that the trend today is changing from rote learning to technology-based education, making eLearning an integral part of education.

Young generation, popularly known as GenNext, forms a major chunk of India’s population. This generation must be provided with the right kind of education in the right manner and eLearning is sure to ensure it.
