Coding Robots to Create interest in STEM for Gen Alpha’s

Generation Alpha, the children who were born between 2010 to 2025, the first generation who grew up with the digital world at their fingertips. The oldest of this generation is currently nine years old and are so infused in technology that they are not afraid of AI and see robots as simple natural friendly companions. According to Robert Hannah, Chief Operating Officer at Grant Thornton U.K., “by 2025, Generation Alpha will number 2 billion globally. It will be the wealthiest, most educated, and technologically literate in history.”

The question of how to educate this new generation is both exciting and challenging as traditional methods of learning won’t be applicable to these children who grew with Siri, Alexa and Google that will answer all their questions. Innovative classroom teaching-learning methods need to be introduced to engage these learners, especially in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics).

Education startups such as CreativityBox, AI technology developers UBTECH Robotics etc. have created kits that are entertaining as well as educational tools to help the young Alphas learn the first steps into STEM skills.

Mochi a cute bear that teaches coding for children from ages 3-6 through a playful and hands-on way. Learn with Mochi created by CreativityBox helps little ones to learn colours, numbers, letters, basic words, and coding all at the same time.

In a world where children grow up with iPhones in their hands, it is thoroughly refreshing that there is also screen-free technology for STEM education. Dr Vardanyan, Chief Scientist at CreativityBox, said that “it’s hard to compete with the immediate gratification of screen-based content. Early childhood is a wonderful time to explore and develop brain plasticity because of early investments in education compound over a lifetime.”
