Bolo App, launched by Google, to help children in rural India
Google has launched a speech-based reading-tutor app called Bolo for Android smartphones to help children read in rural India. By launching this app, Google plans on spreading its importance far and wide. It is aimed at helping children in primary school read Hindi and English. It can be downloaded for free from Google’s Play Store and can be used at the user’s convenience. It works by using Google’s speech recognition and text-to-speech technology.
The app features an animated character named ‘Dia’ who exhorts children to read stories aloud and help them pronounce the words. It also praises the reader when they complete reading. What’s more, it also gives instantaneous feedback.
