KOLKATA, 30th November, 2011:- A student from Kolkata has recorded a perfect score at this year’s SAT Reasoning Test – 2400 out of 2400 – probably the highest ever by any candidate. The feat was achieved by Rachit Parasrampuria of La Martiniere School for Boys, Kolkata. High scores are not new for Rachit, set to appear for his ISC examinations in March 2012 – he scored 96 per cent at his ICSE examination. However, the unassuming lad attributes his stupendous feat to ‘plain luck,’ and asserts that getting a 100 per cent score is a matter of luck. His score would be lower if he took the exam again, he says. He feels that merit-wise, there is not much difference between students whose scores are above 2200 – they are all in the same merit bracket. School principal Sunirmal Chakraborty expressed joy at his achievement, and said they were proud of Rachit. Rachit wants to study computer science in the US. The SAT Reasoning Test is a standardised test for admission to colleges in the United States. Conducted by a US-based non-profit organisation, the test intends to assess a student’s readiness for college. It was introduced in 1926, and its name and scoring have changed several times, from the Scholastic Aptitude Test to the Scholastic Assessment Test, but now SAT does not stand for anything, and hence, is an empty acronym. The test, which is 3 hours and 45 minutes long, includes three 800-point sections on Mathematics, Critical Reading and Writing. Possible scores range from 600 to 2400, as they combine results from the three sections. SAT is necessary for getting admission to many (not all) universities in the US.
