US Department of Education has granted funds to 41 school districts
According to a US Department of Education press release, $123 million has been granted to 41 school districts, nonprofits and state educational agencies. The grant will be utilised for developing innovative programs meant to improve the academic performance of students with learning needs. Out of the grant money, $30 million are awarded to eight districts, organisations and state agencies in rural areas, and over $78 million are distributed to 30 grantees to fund STEM projects.
The grants are given as part of the Education and Innovation Research Program (EIR) that was set up by the Obama administration in 2016. The primary objective of the programme was to offer financial support to those grantees who were working for the welfare of the underserved students. As of now, the funds will be used for supporting principal training efforts, improving school climates and preparing students for higher education.
