Tamil Nadu state board curriculum on mobile apps soon
Students in Tamil Nadu will soon be able to access their state board curriculum lessons on their mobile phones. The State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) has already begun work to create textbooks on a digital platform. It is going about it in a phased manner. In the first phase, the SCERT hopes to launch digital lessons for classes 1 to 6, for the academic year 2018-2019.
The SCERT will launch mobile apps on the Android platform, class-wise, during the next five years. The students will be able to choose if they want to take their lessons in the online or offline modes.
In addition to lessons, the apps will also have tests and video lectures. The patterns for competitive exams will form the bases of some of the tests.
Schools located in remote areas, where there are fewer teachers, could benefit more from these apps.
While students from higher classes should find the self-evaluation tools and rigorous lessons useful, younger students should find the lessons engaging because of the bright and colourful format. The apps will have animation-based content for the students of primary classes.
