Self-learning makes independent individuals
Self-learning without an external aide makes a student an independent thinker. Most importantly it gives the student the freedom to make mistakes and learn from them.
So, when a child learns independently and cracks a difficult problem it’s a reward in itself. Students retain knowledge more naturally when they learn on their own because then they relate to their work better and don’t feel restricted or imposed. The job of a teacher is only to evoke the student’s enthusiasm to learn and identify his or her needs. Primary and middle school teachers around the world agree that computer-based learning is a wonderful medium in terms of keeping the child active and raring to go at all times.
Parents and teachers have no need to worry about gaps in their education. If they need to know something extra down the road, they will just look it up on their own. Once a student gets into the groove of self-learning, he’ll soon muster the courage to delve into an area of interest to study it.
Self-learning gives the opportunity to develop a good work ethic. It allows the learner to go deep into a subject. Learners can test with or skim over materials learnt and focus on mastering areas containing new information and/or skills.
In an advanced self-learning environment, there is a definite flexibility to join discussions in the bulletin board threaded discussion areas at any hour, or visit with classmates and instructors remotely in chat rooms.
Besides, in today’s fast world where the knowledge base of the world at large is shooting up literally every minute of the day, a student needs to be self-sufficient and reduce his dependence on the teacher.
