How to use legos while teaching math
Nowadays, many teachers prefer using legos while teaching mathematics. Bright-colored legos can easily draw kids’ attention to the subject. In addition to their visual aspects, they are quite handy to use. There are different innovative ways to use legos at the time of teaching mathematics. Some of them are as follows:
- If you are teaching fractions, use as many bricks (lego pieces) as possible. Make sure all bricks are same in size but different in colors. Now, ask your students to calculate the denominator (the total number of bricks) and the numerator (represented by various colors) using these bricks.
- You can also encourage your students to decide area and perimeter using the bricks. Form a square using the bricks and then, let students calculate these two things by using the nubs on the bricks’ top.
- While teaching multiplication, you can also use bricks. Use different types of bricks (some with 4 nubs on top and some with 8 nubs). Now, let your students decide the total numbers of nubs by calculating the numbers of the similar type of bricks. For example, if there are 5 bricks with 4 nubs on each, then the total numbers of nubs will be 20.
Besides, you can use bricks to teach students many other mathematical concepts, including range, value, mode and so on.
