Nesta and DfE launch Education Innovation Testbed
The Department of Education, U.K., and Nesta, a UK-based innovation foundation have launched Edtech Innovation Testbed (EIT), a programme started in May 2019 and scheduled to end in September 2021. The primary objective of this programme is to offer a trial of edtech products to schools in England for free. Also, hands-on support from independent experts will be given to understand which products will suit the needs of a particular school.
Apart from reducing teacher workload, the products will address one of the following issues:
- Formative assessment and essay marking
- Parental engagement
- Timetabling
Joysy John, Director of Nesta, is of the opinion that staff and schools will get an opportunity to learn about these products to further their professional development and better understand what works. Moreover, it will bridge the gap between industry and the education sector.
This programme is the product of research carried out earlier this year, which focused on exploring edtech testbeds from all around the world.
