Hone Your Communication Skills with Fun: Alexa Integrates Celeb Voices and Multiple Languages
Voice-controlled smart speakers such as Alexa by Amazon and Google Home are already making their way into education, primarily to set reminders for homework or assignments and conduct games such as quizzes, puzzles and math games.
Such speakers can improve listening and speaking skills of students with the help of a conversation. Reminder alerts for miscellaneous learning activities can also be given by the assistant.
Imagine having all these in your favourite celebrity’s voice!
Amazon Alexa has recently launched its celebrity voice pack, powered by the Neural Text-to-Speech technology, and the first celebrity is Samuel L. Jackson, who played the infamous Captain Nick Fury of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Although the speech acts will be fairly rudimentary for now, Amazon intends this project to include several other celebrities, which can make Alexa more emotive and expressive.
Amazon also announced a multilingual mode for Alexa, aimed at households which speak more than one language, for instance, English and French in Canada or English and Hindi in India.
This can be a step further into emotionally engaging young children in honing their communication skills. The added incentive of listening to celebrity voices can actively engage them in communicating with the smart speakers, and multilingual modes can help them pick up languages faster.
