Uproar Among Parents as CBSE Does Away with its International Curriculum, CBSE-i

Central Board of Secondary Education’s decision to scrap out its international curriculum, CBSE-i, from the coming academic year has brought about severe dissatisfaction among the parents.

Introduced as a pilot project in 2010-11, the CBSE-i curriculum has run into several difficulties including lack of global standard teaching-learning material and hence needs to be discontinued, CBSE notified. Parents and schools in Orissa were however happy with the outcomes of the curriculum and consequently have decided to write to CBSE to not scrap the curriculum.

The CBSE-i curriculum was greatly popular owing to its pedagogies and content as well as cost-effectiveness compared to other international curricula. The parents opine that in the era of globalisation it is the duty of the government to provide curriculum which is at par with the international boards. In Pune, on the other hand, parents and school management are also considering switching to other boards like IGCSE. Some schools also plan to offer regular CBSE curriculum, thought the parents are dissatisfied with the decision.
