The new DIY laboratory of IIT Kharagpur can be the best tech-playground for would-be scientists
IIT Kharagpur is ready with the DIY (Do-It-Yourself) Laboratory which is all set to motivate innovative spirits of first-year undergraduate students following the concept of self-learning. The lab will act as a tech-playground for students where they can experiment with different instruments and consumables available in the lab. The accessible instruments are from the domains of electrical, mechanical and electronics department.
As a beginning, 350 first-year students will be working on different projects in DIY which will be selected by the students themselves. Technical staff and senior students of IIT KGP will help them in their projects by being their design mentors.
“We will start with first-year undergraduate students but moving on the lab will be accessible to all,” said the Associate Professor of IIT KGP Mechanical Engineering Department Vikranth Racherla. Later on, there will be some fixed slots for first-year undergraduate students and some open slots which can be availed by others.
Every semester, some selected faculty members will be associated with the lab. Around ten faculty members will join the lab from various disciplines for the upcoming session.
