Supreme Court says no to NEET 2017 nullification
The Supreme Court of India has said that the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) 2017 exam should not be nullified as it would affect the future of the more than 6 lakh students who cleared the exam, out of more than 11 lakh who appeared. Also, the process of counselling for admissions to medical and dental courses, based on the results of the exam, is currently going on.
A petition for nullification of the exam was filed in the court based on the fact that candidates were given three sets of question papers in Andhra Pradesh, in order to hold the exam in vernacular languages.
The petitioners argued that the same question paper should have been given to all candidates, since an all-India ranking was given.
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), which conducts the NEET, argued that the level of difficulty was the same in all the question papers.
The court has asked the CBSE to file an affidavit to explain its position and scheduled the next hearing for July 31.
