Robotics: Ushering in a paradigm shift in the education industry
In today’s evolving world, life skills—such as problem solving, decision making, critical thinking, teamwork—are gaining importance like never before. No doubt, these skills cannot be honed in the traditional ‘chalk and talk’ classroom setting. Given this, more and more schools are adopting new-age learning methodologies to ensure the holistic development of their students. It has led to an increase in the use of robotics in academic institutions across India.
Robotics provides an end-to-end empowerment program for students, which helps in developing core life skills. Besides, it promotes Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) learning, enabling students to solve various real-life problems on their own.
Hardware and software used in robotics help students sharpen their creativity and hone up analytical skills so that they can come up with efficacious solutions to any problem and make a sound decision. Further, robotics enables students to build self-confidence and get a sense of accomplishment.
The application of robotics in any schools can be segmented into two broad categories. One is its application in the classroom setting, wherein a teacher uses robots for the teaching-learning process. Another is its use in the robotic club of a school, wherein a teacher helps students get more insights into this field.
Teachers can use robotics to generate students’ interest in engineering and IT. While doing a robotics-based project, students need to follow principles related to various engineering fields, including mechanical, chemical, electrical and IT. This way, robotics can help students find their career interests as well as career direction.
