Digital classrooms—Redefining classroom-based teaching/learning

The classroom-based teaching and learning process has undergone a sea change, thanks to new-age digital classrooms. Be it enhancing the quality of education, improving students’ learning ability or exposing students to world-class education, these cutting-edge classrooms are heralded as a major breakthrough in school education. Further, in the digital classroom setting, students can easily manage the pace of their learning and explore several learning paths.

Unlike the traditional classroom setting, digital classrooms make the learning experience more enjoyable for students. Using various digital teaching tools, the teacher can reach out to every student in the classroom, thereby leading to higher student engagement. Further, digital screens and high-end, multimedia-based, and pedagogically appropriate content make the teaching-learning process more interactive, interesting and engaging, which is quite impossible in the traditional classroom setting.

Although digital classrooms have gained popularity across the country, many people have shallow knowledge of these classrooms. Some people think that digital classrooms refer to the classrooms equipped with various multimedia systems. However, the concept of digital classrooms is something beyond that. These classrooms are integrated with new-age learning technologies and comprehensive learning plans for teachers. Besides, these classes also provide teachers with a range of tools—such as interactive quizzes, multimedia content, maps, reference tables, and dictionaries—in order to engage all students in the teaching-learning process. Further, teachers can provide students with various assignments during the sessions in order to gauge students’ understanding of the subject.

The future of digital classrooms in India seems quite bright, thanks to people’s growing interest in digital education. Since these classrooms provide access to various instructional styles, for example books, assessments, and audio-visuals, they can easily cater to students with different learning needs and learning backgrounds. Last but not the least; with the availability of multilingual content, these new-age classes hold great promise for a multilingual country like India.
