Facebook’s Portal Can Make Online Learning easy and More Secure!
Amid privacy violation allegations earlier this year, Facebook has launched a new series of more secure Portal devices. The first difference noted by CNET’s Senior Editor Megan Wollerton is that the display can auto-rotate from landscape to portrait mode, allowing people to maximise its use for various purposes. The fact that it can be used like a tab and a laptop display with the camera following people around, so you can talk to someone completely hands-free while doing other things, can be especially helpful for learners.
Facebook has claimed that the Portal devices don’t listen to, view or record video calls. Portal video calls are encrypted; the camera and microphone’s AI technology runs locally on the devices themselves – not on Facebook servers.
In a simple move, the Portal ensures maximum security with software switches in device settings allowing you to turn off the camera and microphone, as well as a mechanical mute switch and a physical camera cover if you want to be extra cautious.
The cherry on top?
Finally, the Portal can do anything an Amazon Echo device can do, thanks to its built-in Alexa, which means controlling smart devices or employing Alexa’s numerous skills.
Sounds like the ultimate device for e-learning sessions! Check out the video to learn more on how to use the Facebook Portal devices.
