1 lakh school dropouts will get a chance to educate themselves in Kerala

The education system in Kerala has always been considered a model for the rest of the country. Recently, Kerala became the best state in terms of quality of school education as per NITI Aayog’s School Education Quality Index. According to me, the state deserves to be known as the best in terms of education because in a unique attempt, the Kerala State Literacy Mission Authority has introduced an initiative to aid nearly one lakh members of the women empowerment project Kudumbashree to complete their secondary and higher secondary education.The women, who had to discontinue their education due to various reasons, will now be enrolled in classes, following which they will take the secondary and higher secondary exams from next year onwards.

The classes will be arranged in 1000 local bodies across the state with two batches of 50 members each in every class. P. S. Sreekala, Mission Director,  said that the initiative would help those who could not continue their education due to various problems but had the zeal for education.

‘There are over 48 lakh Kudumbashree members in the state. Many of them lack the 10th equivalent certificate. Kumbashree has collected the details of all of them and the course fees and exam fees would be taken care of by the local self bodies,’said the press release issued by the literacy mission

Kudumbashree was launched in 1998 and today, it is one of the largest women empowerment projects in the country and covers over 50 per cent of Kerala households.
