Investor education to be included in CBSE syllabus soon

INVESTOR EDUCATION will soon be part of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) curriculum. According to U. K. Sinha, Chairman of stock market regulator Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI), it is proposed to make investor education and financial literacy part of the education imparted by CBSE. The aim is to give children an insight into investments and to educate them about the stock markets, Mr. Sinha said in Chennai. SEBI had already consulted the Union Ministry for Human Resource Development and the CBSE, and the CBSE had agreed in principle to the proposal to include financial literacy in the curriculum, he also said. The details are being worked out, he added. The study material would be included in the syllabus for the higher secondary classes, Mr. Sinha said. He did not disclose details, but said the initiative could be taken to the lower classes, too. Countries like the US and Australia already had financial literacy as part of the curriculum for Classes V and VI, he pointed out.
