How to teach your kids personal safety lessons
Children’s personal safety is a burning issue in today’s time. Given this, parents should teach kids some basic personal safety lessons. However, many parents often get confused thinking how to impart these lessons to their kids. For such parents, the following tips will come in useful.
- Speak openly: You should hold open conversations with your kids. Tell them that some people may touch them in a way that they do not like. Therefore, they should understand the difference between ‘safe touching’ and ‘unsafe touching’. Inform them that the best way to deal with ‘unsafe touching’ is either to show their dislike or run away from the place/scream and inform an adult they trust the most about the incident (if the situation is serious).
- Tell them that their bodies are theirs: Tell them that their bodies belong to them and they can use it in some specific ways, such as hugging parents and near and dear ones, horsing around, shaking hands, and so on. Inform your kids about personal biology and private parts of the body, which no one should touch.
- Break the barrier of secrecy between you and your kids: Be your kids’ close friend and let them realize that you are the person with whom they can share their all secrets. Be all ears whenever your kids demand your time and attention. Let them know how much conscious you are of their safety so that whenever they encounter an uncomfortable situation, they can count upon you.
